EASTERN TOWNSHIPS, QUEBEC #15

SLEDSENSE visits the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada.  As we’ve learned traveling this great globe, nature has it’s own agenda, which isn’t always the same as ours.  Due to lack of snow and poor weather the trails were closed.  So we headed to a local ski hill, where it proceeded to rain.  A stop at the J. Armand Bombardier Museum, during a power outage set the scene for an intimate “candle lit” tour.  The following day the temperature dropped to minus thirty as we attended the prestigious Ski-Doo race, the Grand Prix de Val Court.  Admittedly we froze, but it was well worth it, as we got to meet Blair Morgan, Mike Island, the legendary Jacques Villeneuve, and others at this great event.  So although our resolve was tried and tested, we still came away with another amazing winter adventure.

SLEDSENSESeason 3  SLEDSENSE

Sledsense S3 E1 Revelstoke BC
Welcome back to Revelstoke! In last year's episode it snowed non-stop, this year the clouds disappeared and we had amazing bluebird days. Alex from Glacier House took us up to the highest point he could find to let us loose on the powder: it has to be seen to be believed. Riding through the snowghosts, carving through virgin pow, following caribou tracks, breathtaking vistas, and first-class accomodations all add up to make this one of the most rewarding episodes yet.

Sledsense S3 E2 St. Petersburg, Russia
If you like a little bit of history and culture with your sleddin' getaway, then Russia will knock your socks off. We hooked up the gang from Rosan, the largest sellers of BRP products in Russia and got the royal treatment as we hit the trails in this historic city. Riding with the Bombardier Club, we take in a fraction of the splendor that Russia has to offer: World War 2 monuments, historic architecture from Imperial times, snowcross, and a pagan ritual for the start of spring! Truly a unique experience, unlike anything n North America.

Sledsense S3 E3 Ekaterinburg, Russia
Welcome back comrade! Sledsense is back this week with another adventure-filled tour from the city of Ekatinerburg, Russia. Although Ekaterinburg is a city of over 1 million inhabitants, it is far enough north to be considered the gateway to Siberia. So, we headed out into the woods to see what we could find. Besides the untouched natural beauty of Russia's forests and lakes, we happened upon an ancient village nestled in the woods and received a rather interesting reception from the villagers. Let's just say there was significantly more singing and dancing than a traditional North American greeting. Loads of fun in this episode: check it out!

Sledsense S3 E4 Kiruna, Sweden
This week on Sledsense we bring you yet another amazing sledding destination from across the pond: Kiruna, Sweden. Home of the original Ice Hotel, and featuring diverse riding conditions, Sweden was one of our favourite sleddin' trips yet! We started in the mountains where we had bluebird riding conditions but gradually found our way down to the lowlands where most of the powder had been blown to after a particularily blustery season. After a full afternoon of carving through powder on one of Sweden's many lakes, we made our way to a lunch stop where the our illustrious hosts from the Ice Hotel cooked up a 'wicked awesome' potato and reindeer meal, in the tradition of the native Sami people. And, of course, we spent the night at the beautiful Ice Hotel, where we concluded this weeks adventure.

Sledsense S3 E5 Tromso, Norway Part1
This week on Sledsense we visit the Troms County region of Norway, which is located just across the border from Kiruna, Sweden. Due to restrictions placed upon snowmobiling in Norway, we had to acquire special permission to complete a historic, first-time crossing from Sweden to Norway via snowmobiles over an incredibly scenic mountaintop. From there we arrive at the Polar Zoo to get up close and personal inside the pen with some of the native predators in the Arctic. Still not enough for you? Alright, well we do some lake riding with the gang from Villmarkstur, try a little ice fishing, meet some native Saamis, and tour the impossibly beautiful city of Tromso, also known as the Paris of the North. STILL not enough? We didn't think so either which is why we had to split this blockbuster into 2 episodes. So drop by next week for more of the best Adventure Traveling on the tube!

Sledsense S3 E6 Tromso, Norway Part 2
This week on Sledsense we're back for even more action in the Troms County region of Norway. This time we head for the hills and carve across the fog-bound mountain ranges of Norway's incredible wilderness and meet up with a Saami family who treat us to an authentic reindeer-drawn sleigh ride. As an added bonus we take a tour of Polaria in Tromso, an arctic research facility that studies the habits of the indigenous seal population. Being able to hand feed these gentle giants was a real thrill! Lastly, we take a look at Norway's capital, Oslo, and tour the Viking museum for a unique look into Norway's rich history: a truly amazing episode!

Sledsense S3 E7 Lake Myvatn, Iceland
This week on Sledsense, we take you to one of the most remote regions on the planet for adventure travel - the Lake Myvatn region of Iceland. Come along for the adventure as we blaze a trail across glacier carved open expanses as far as the eye can see. We stop off at the most powerful waterfall in Europe for a little taste test.

Sledsense S3 E8 Reykjavik, Iceland 2007
This week on Sledsense we take you to the capital of Iceland - the historic city of Reykjavik. Not only is the city itself one of the most beautiful in Scandinavia, but the entire region is some of the most picturesque in the world. We get our start with the Mountaineers of Iceland Adventure Tours and hit the back country in some amazing Super Jeeps:, fording rivers, blasting through 5 foot snowbanks, and traversing roads which less stalwart travelers dare not tread. We visit some of the geysers and waterfalls which pepper the area, and end up getting stuck - literally - in a blizzard that makes the way forward impossible. So, the next day, we start out of our snowmobiles and hit some of the greatest areas Iceland has to offer. Lunch on a volcanic crater, blasting across mile after mile of seemingly limitless powder: the smiles never left our faces!
